Pregnancy benefits with Blue KC

Your pregnancy is covered* by your Blue KC health plan from your first prenatal doctor’s visit to postpartum care.

While coverage varies by plan, most include:

  • Prenatal care: Gestational diabetes screening, Rh incompatibility testing and STD testing
  • Childbirth: Labor, delivery and any complications that may arise
  • Postpartum care: Breastfeeding equipment, birth control options and recovery support
Important reminder

Once your little one arrives, you’ll need to add your baby to your health plan within 30 days of birth.

If you have employer-provided coverage, contact your HR department.

If you purchase your own plan, notify the Healthcare Marketplace to ensure continuous coverage for your newest family member.

Breastfeeding support when you need it

Connect with lactation experts

Breastfeeding is natural, but it doesn’t always come naturally. Our network includes certified lactation consultants who can make your experience easier. Check out the directory below for a list of trusted, in-network providers and hospitals who specialize in supporting breastfeeding families.

Breast pump coverage

Most Blue KC plans cover the allowable charge for a breast pump purchase1. Blue KC will contribute towards the purchase of either a manual or electric breast pump, double or single, based on what works best for you.

When you reach 26-28 weeks, ask your doctor for a breast pump prescription. At about 30 weeks, you can order your pump by contacting an in-network provider2. Not sure what to expect cost-wise? Our award-winning customer service team can help you understand potential expenses before your purchase, ensuring no surprises when your little one arrives.

1If you are unsure if your plan includes the breast pump benefit, please call Customer Service at the number listed on your member ID card.

2Find the provider listing on MyBlueKC.com. Go to Health Programs (located under Health & Wellness), then the Pregnancy tab.
