Improving access to community health across the region

Blue KC is committed to advancing health equity throughout the communities we serve. By listening to our members and the community, we take what we learn and develop initiatives that improve health and well-being beyond regular check-ups and screenings. Our wide-ranging community health programs and partnerships impact our population’s health and ability to live better lives.

We’re here to serve you

Blue KC takes great pride in developing community health initiatives. It starts with our holistic approach to healthcare centered on factors that prevent people from achieving wellness – affordable housing, nutritious food, transportation, loneliness and more. From there, we can develop the services and resources that truly impact lives.

What we’re doing for health equity:

Implicit bias trainings for healthcare workers

In early 2024, Blue KC hosted two accredited Implicit Bias Training sessions for more than 100 healthcare professionals at Union Station in Kansas City, MO. Titled “Unlocking Implicit Bias: How Our Hidden Attitudes Impact Patient Care”, Dr. Jabraan Pasha, MD, explored implicit bias in a straightforward, compassionate and engaging discussion. The training addressed unconscious biases and promoted diversity and inclusion in various settings.

Supportive Pregnancy Care (SPC)

Blue KC and March of Dimes implemented SPC groups in select local health systems to enable providers to successfully implement group prenatal care to help achieve equity in birth outcomes.

Community baby showers in partnership with the Black Health Care Coalition

Blue KC participates in quarterly baby showers to honor, support, and provide resources to expecting parents.

Behavioral health education for students

Blue KC, Children’s Mercy Kansas City, and Center School District have partnered together to create an intervention program to tackle the youth mental health crisis.

There’s a Community Health Worker waiting to help you

Navigating healthcare can be challenging at times, but a Blue KC Community Health Worker can help. Whether it’s finding the right provider, keeping up with preventive care or something different, they have the resources and guidance to see you through.

A Community Health Worker can assist Blue KC members with:

  • Connecting to resources like food, clothing and other needs

  • Motivation to help you reach your health goals
  • Navigating the healthcare system

Community wellness is more than physical health

Your Healthiest Life: A Blue KC Health Education Series is an insightful resource available to the public. It offers a practical look at everyday behavioral health challenges and how to address them. It also shares tips for supporting family members, friends and coworkers and when to seek professional help.

Health equity only happens when people get involved

Access to quality healthcare for every member of our community can be a complex and multifaceted challenge. Our total population’s health requires commitment and active involvement from individuals, organizations and policymakers. By working together, we can create healthier, more inclusive communities for everyone.
